The Halloween Edition of Straight Up Poetry will feature the Spoken Word LEGEND 13 of Nazareth!
13 of Nazareth is a convergence of hip-hop culture, old school R&B and soul music, scientific spirituality and a child-like love of language. Rhythms that are warm to the heart embedded with lyrics that are challenging to the ear often emerge from this intersection and have resulted in him being labeled a "poet's poet." 13's poetry is elevated without being condescending as it invites you to see from his vantage point without dismissing your own and encourages you to apply what is useful from his work while discarding what is not. 13 of Nazareth has published 8 CDs and is currently working on his first book of poetry. His list of engagements includes The Julliard School, St. Lawrence Center for The Arts, The Chrysler Museum, The Carter Barron Amphitheater, The Tampa Improv, The Smithsonian Institute, The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, and numerous colleges and universities.
